Student absences will be recorded on the student’s attendance history in MiStar, the district’s student management system. Listed below are the types of absences and the appropriate codes for each. For example: If the student has an unexcused absence, it will be coded with an ‘A’ on the student’s attendance history in the MiStar system. Parents are able to view their child’s attendance history using the MiStar ParentConnection.

Unexcused Absences: (A)

Parents and guardians must call the main office or use ParentConnection to report an absence. All reports must be made within 48 hours of the absence. If a student’s parent or guardian does not call within 48 hours of the student’s absence from class, or if the absence is not due to participation in a school related activity, then the absence will be deemed unexcused.
An unexcused absence will be considered a skip and parent(s) or guardian(s) will be notified. If a student continues to skip, a parent conference may be required and disciplinary action will be taken.
Students who do not return for afternoon classes after lunch will be considered unexcused.

Excused Absences: (X)

Are absences where a parent or guardian has called the school either prior or within 48 hours of the absence.
Please note: Excused absences still count toward a student’s total for the semester.

Documented Absences: (DA)

Absences that are documented including a doctor’s note, court papers, and/or a funeral. Proof/Verification is required.
These absences do not count toward the total for the semester.

Late Arrival (LA)

When a student arrives past the first bell.
If a student is tardy more than five minutes to a class, they are considered absent.

Early Departure (ED)

When a student is signed out 5 minutes or more before the last bell.

Please note: Both unexcused and excused absences count toward the total absences for each semester. Only documented absences such as doctor’s note, court papers, and/or a funeral, will not count toward the total absences for the semester.
